Hello! My name is Madeline Mizusaki. I am a Visual Development Artist with a focus in Backgrounds and Character Designs. I was born and raised in the Midwest before I flew out to sunny California to pursue my dreams of being an artist.

As soon I was brought into this world, art and creating art became my passion. And of course it became my favorite subject in school. When I wasn’t drawing, I was watching TV, a little too much if you ask my mother. I started to fall in love with animation and storytelling. I loved it so much, that I wanted to see all the development work that went into my favorite TV shows or Animated films.

I was fortunate to work along side with a private art instructor during my adolescent years. I learned to paint traditionally in oil and painting soon became another passion. Drawing had always been natural to me, but it was painting that forced me out of my comfort zones. Speaking of comfort zones, after High school, my twin sister and I moved away. We left from the cold Minnesotan winters to the blazing hot summers of California.

During this time, it became clear that I wanted to do some work in the entertainment industry. I got accepted into ArtCenter College of Design during the Fall of 2015. Here I was able to learn a lot about what it takes to create and tell a great story. The education I received helped solidify my skills in layouts, color, turnarounds, gestures and professionalism. It was honestly one of the best years of my life.

Within my last years at ArtCenter, I started to gravitate towards Backgrounds and Character designs. I believe backgrounds help shape the world in which greats characters get to exist, and I love to be part of that process.
